Hot topics such as the preference for sons, blind filial piety, midlife crisis, mother’s boy and influence of original family have been widely discussed at social media throughout the whole month.

“I cried multiple times when watching the drama because I can totally identify with Su’s life. Gender inequality is still a common problem in rural China, and I’m one of the victims,” Jiang Yijing, a Beijing-based nursing worker, told the Global Times.

In the drama, the behaviors of three male characters even helped some clever people to win business on the e-commerce platform Taobao. Some sellers have launched a special service to customers who pay fees to scold or curse the characters they despise so much.

However, Liu also pointed out that some realistic TV dramas at the current stage have problems like catering to the market demand, amplifying social pains, and stoking anxiety on controversial issues, with a view to gaining high audience rating.

What TV drama producers should do is to strike a balance between social ethics and market demand, Liu noted.

The victim tried to resist but was hit by the suspects, who then drove away.

China’s Consulate-General in Toronto announced Monday that local police were investigating the case and trying to locate the victim.

The Consulate said they have launched emergency protection mechanism and urged the Canadian police to save Lu.

After the incident, the York regional police posted on Twitter a notice with several photographs of the victim and suspects to urge the public to report about their location.

The case soon sparked concerns over Chinese nationals’ safety in Canada, with many netizens praying for Lu’s safety,  and many linked the case with the arrest of Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei, who was arrested in Canada in December 2018.

“I was scheduled to start an exchange study in Toronto in May but I am kind of worried now,” a Beijing-based university student surnamed Ma told the Global Times on Monday.

She noted that her parents did not allow her to leave for Canada after they learned about the case.

A counselor surnamed Peng at JJL Overseas Education, an overseas study service agency, also confirmed with the Global Times on Monday that recently, students’ parents repeatedly consulted her about the safety issues before sending their children to Canada.

In July 2018, the Civil Aviation Administration issued the “Notice on Improving the Work of Ticketing Services for Civil Aviation”, requiring airlines to formulate “step rate” for discounted ticket refunding and change fees, etc. 

Among the 32 airlines, a total of 23 airlines have completed the “step rate”.

At present, the four major airlines have completed the formulation of the “step rate”.

On the 21st of this month, Air China issued a notice stating that the “step rate” for the domestic ticket refund fee will be implemented from March 31. 

The rate will be adjusted to the 4 standards, that is, “30 days before the flight departure(inclusive), “30 days before flight departure (excluding) to 14 days (inclusive)“, “14 days before flight departure (excluding) to 4 hours (inclusive)“, “4 hours before flight departure”(excluding). 

On the same day, the official name of the Southern Airlines official public announcement, since March 24. 

The implementation of “step rate”, a total of 4 standards:7 days before the flight departure(inclusive); before the flight departure (excluding) to 2 days (inclusive); 2 days to 4 hours before departure (inclusive); 4 hours before departure (excluding).

The airline companies said, the earlier you refund, then the lower your fees.

Previously, four airlines, including China Eastern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and Xiamen Airlines, divided “the time” into 4 standards of 7 days, 48 hours and 4 hours.

Shenzhen Airlines divided “the time” into 4 standards of 7 days, 72 hours and 4 hours. And Spring Airlines divided “the time” into 5 standards of 7 days, 72 hours, 24 hours and 2 hours.
