After the Universal Postal Union agreed to allow postal operators to raise their rates for domestic delivery of this traffic, shipping cost from China will be much higher. 

It is reported that the Universal Postal Union (UPU) decides to raise the terminal dues and China will pay 27% higher in 2020 and 164% higher in total by the end of 2025. 

UPU determines how much the post offices of more than 190 countries can charge each other. 

 

Trump threatened to quit the union before, complaining that the U.S. was being “forced to subsidize” small packages entering the country from China. 

Under the existing arrangement, as a developing country, China pays cheaper so-called terminal dues than developed countries such as the US. This means shipping within the US can sometimes be more costly than shipping from China. 

Now the union passes the new fee structure, which suggests that in over five years starting in July 2020, consumers will have to pay a higher price to buy stuff from China and other countries. 

The increase might make the cost of cross-border e-commerce logistics in China goes much higher and affect China’s trading industry.

It is reported that a training center tries to parents to enroll their children in a course that promises to teach young pupils to read 20,000 words a minute simply by flipping through the pages of a book. 

The reading method is called Quantum Speed Reading, which allows children to read the entire book and recall the contents after rapidly flipping through the pages. 

The video shows “talented” young students having a speed-reading contest in Beijing and they repeatedly flash-flip through a textbook. 

Teachers at the training center claim that the students were able to read a book with 100,000 words between one and five minutes. 

 

Students there are aged from around 6 to 12.

The video includes apparent testimonials from parents saying their children are using the reading method to complete their reading homework in just a few seconds.   

“This child spent two minutes and 23 seconds finishing reading Three Days To See,” a teacher said, reading from a message she said was from a parent. 

The quantum wave reading method was invented by a Japanese expert who claims that flipping through a book in an unknown language can stimulate the brain to automatically translate it into the child’s mother tongue.

The advertisement says that the speeding reading course contains 72 lessons but the tuition fee is not mentioned in the video. 

But Beijing Youth Daily finds that training centers in Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and elsewhere in China offering similar courses, with one priced at 269,000 yuan ($38,000). 

A researcher at the 21st Century Education Research Institute says that there is no scientific basis for such training, and that these institutions are simply taking advantage of anxious parents. 

However, there are still so many Chinese parents sending their children to learn it and hoping to give them a competitive advantage.

HOW CAN USE 5G? 

According to China Mobile, you can use 5G network services if meeting the following two conditions: 

• Using 5G phones

• Ordering 5G network packages

If you already use 5G smartphone, you can get a 5G network trial package which is available til Oct 31! 

HOW MUCH? 

Although the prices of the packages haven’t been unveiled, related news and reports can be used as a reference. 

Wang Xiaochu, president of China Unicom, has said that the company’s monthly 5G plans would start around 190 yuan ($27) in the transition periods. 

One of China Telecom’s employees says that the prices could range from 199 yuan ($28) to 599 yuan ($84). 

All three carriers offer incentives. According to the report, for the first six months, the preferential prices will be: 

 

• 30% off for users who have been in its network for over five years, 

• 20% off for those in its network for less than that period.
