As the series has grown in popularity, HBO has put more emphasis on intellectual property protection, and its trademark registration covers nearly 45 trademark classes.

Besides focusing on the protection of all kinds of trademarks, HBO strictly prohibits others from using the trademarks and immediately raises objections once it is found.

For example, they complain about jewelry in class14 and wine in class 33.

Counterattack of authorized drama

If millions of fans around the world are flocking to piracy edition, it’s like an army of “dead people” attacking us. Though pirate behavior is very serious, they can’t be ruined immediately.

As a matter of fact, the downloading piracy edition is infringing the copyright of drama. To protect IPR and encourage the original, the whole world is strengthening protection efforts.

USA: A 22-year-old man uploaded a movie to Facebook for free viewing, which made him facing six months in prison for violating federal laws. The offense carries the maximum sentence to one year in prison and a fine of 100,000 USD.

Japan: A new copyright law regulates that downloading unauthorized music and video files from the Internet, knowing it is piracy, may be sentenced up to 2 years’ detention or a fine of up to 2 million yen.

 

It is also illegal to compress an image from a copy-proof DVD to a PC terminal.

According to the current trend, the protection of IPR will only become stronger and stronger.
