China’s 2020 Public Holiday Calendar

China’s General Office of the State Council has released the official 2020 public holiday calendar. Today, as New Year’s Day, is the first holiday this year. 

 

Later this month, there will be a 7-day holiday for Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) from Jan 25 to Jan 27. The adjusted workdays are Jan 19 and Feb 1.

Lower Tariffs on over 850 Items! You Can Buy Cheaper Imported Product Soon! 

China has adjusted import tariffs for a range of products starting Jan 1, 2020 to promote high-quality development of trade. 

 

850 items of commodities will be subjected to temporary import duty rates below most-favored-nation (MFN) tariffs. That compared with 706 products that were taxed at temporary rates in 2019.

Doing Business in China Goes Easier! China to Optimize the Environment

The State Council made public a regulation on optimizing the business environment in the latest step to unleash and develop productive forces and advance high-quality development. 

 

The regulation, effective from Jan 1, 2020, specifies the principles and directions for fostering a stable, fair, transparent and predictable business environment. 

Meanwhile, the regulation details efforts on cutting red tape, streamlining administrative approval, and improving supervision and administrative law enforcement.

Foreign Investment Law Comes into Effect

China will fully implement the Foreign Investment Law from Jan 1, 2020, aiming to better protect the legitimate rights and interests of foreign investors in the country.

But now you may get there earlier since the Taicheng-Jinpen Section of the Huadu-Dongguan Expressway open on Jan 1! 

 

The entire 65-km Huadu-Dongguan Expressway runs from east to west, starting at the Airport Expressway’s Taicheng Interchange and ending at the Zengzheng-Dongguan-Shenzhen Expressway, and is scheduled to open this year also.

China Offers Avenue for Companies to Repair Poor Tax Credit

It’s widely known that tax payment may affect social credit. But there are always some people forgetting to do such things and finally not allowed to leave China. 

On November 7, 2019, China’s State Administration of Tax (SAT) released the Announcement on Matters Related to Tax Credit Repair, effective from January 1, 2020. 

Since today, taxpayers of enterprises that have been included in tax credit management have carried out tax credit repair by making credit commitments and correcting untrustworthiness.

It was supposed to be their happy day. A bride and groom went to register as newlyweds only to learn the civil affairs database has her listed as being married to five other men from four provinces. 

The woman, Shang Junjun from Zhumadian, Central China’s Henan Province, is accusing the men for stealing her identity, and her new husband backs her up. 

 

Shang and her fiancé, Wang Xinping, went to the local civil affairs department to register their marriage on December 10, only to be shocked by the unexpected news. 

 

 

The department staff said they are not allowed to register. The civil affairs database shows Shang she was still registered as married to five men. 

 

△ The database shows that Shang has married to five men. 

 

However, Shang had no idea to the record at all. 

 

According to the media reports, Shang married a man surnamed Meng from East China’s Shandong Province in 2004, then two men named Du and Wang from North China’s Hebei Province in 2004, a fourth man named in Yin from East China’s Anhui Province in 2005, and a fifth man surnamed Shen from East China’s Jiangsu Province. 

 

△ A marriage registration form shows the applicants were Shang and Yin, however, the woman on the image was not Shang at all. 

 

Shang’s boyfriend felt confused. He said he and Shang have had been together for more than ten years and she had never been unfaithful. 

“Thanksfully I’ve known her for long, or we must broke up.” 

Shang believes she is being impersonated, but when she asked local police for help, she was told she would have to report her case to police in each province before the bogus marriages could be erased from the records.  

The couple has not been allowed to register their own marriage yet.

China’s National Immigration Administration (NIA) released official software for authenticating entry/exit permits, which makes overseas residents and foreigners enjoy the convenience brought by Internet plus. 

No matter you are a foreigner, HK / Macao resident, or overseas Chinese, living or traveling in mainland China could be inconvenient sometimes. 

 

If you want to apply for a bank card, you need to take hours and hours to fill out forms and submit several documents in English and Chinese, and then wait for the approval in days. 

What if the paperwork is no longer required and the institutions can directly check your valid exit and entry documents via an authoritative system? 

 

The software launched on Thursday allows information to be quickly scanned and verified through a mobile phone terminal or other equipment in a safe and authoritative way. 

 

 

The software is applied in banking, telecom, railway and accommodation services, which will facilitate the living and traveling, and provide more convenience in personal affairs. 

 

For now, the software is applicable to Chinese passports and Mainland Travel Permits for Hong Kong and Macao Residents. 

 

It’ll be updated in the future to read and authenticate more exit, entry documents including foreign passports.
