Newly Revised Individual Income Tax Law is Implemented
On January 1, 2019, the individual income tax (IIT) Law changes came into effect in China. The changes are a big step in allowing foreigners who are residents and local taxpayers to enjoy the same tax treatment on a special deductions claim.

Attention! Alipay Began to Charge a Service Fee for Credit Card Repayment
On February 21, Alipay announced that in order to continue to provide better service to users, from March 26th, Alipay would charge a service fee for credit card repayment.

Foreign Couples Can No Longer Get Married in China  
According to an announcement of China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs, marriage registration for both parties who are foreigners was canceled. But marriages between a foreigner and Chinese national are still permitted.

From May 1, 2019, a foreigner living in China for 183 days or more is seen as a tax resident.

These RMB Notes and Coins Can’t Be Used Anymore!  
According to the central bank’s website, approved by the State Council, the People’s Bank of China decided to stop the circulation of the fourth set of RMB 100 yuan, 50 yuan, 10 yuan, 5 yuan, 2 yuan, 2 jiao and 1 jiao coin.

China to Grant Long-term Visa up to 5 Years to More Expats!  
China has eased the permanent residence application for more high-level foreign talents. Meanwhile, long-term visas and residence permits will be issued to more foreigners including those doing business, working or studying in China.

China has extended 144-hr visa-free transit to more border ports. Now citizens from 53 countries can apply for the exemption transit and transfer in China via certain ports without Chinese visas.
